How do I clean my Snuffle Mat?
Your snuffle mat is made from soft polar fleece strips, which can trap food crumbs, drool, and pet hair with regular use — here's how to keep it fresh:
- Shake it out first: Before washing, shake the mat outside or over a trash can to remove loose crumbs and debris caught in the fleece strips.
- Machine wash: Polar fleece holds up well to machine washing. Place the mat inside a mesh laundry bag to help it keep its shape, and wash on a gentle/cold cycle with a mild, pet-safe detergent. Avoid fabric softener — it coats the fleece fibers and can dull your dog's sense of smell, making the mat less effective for scent games.
- Hand wash (alternative): If you prefer not to machine wash it, hand wash in cold water with a gentle detergent, then gently squeeze out excess water (don't wring or twist the fleece strips).
- Drying: Air dry flat, away from direct heat. Avoid the dryer — high heat can cause polar fleece to shrink, pill, or lose its shape over time.
- How often: Wash every 1–2 weeks with regular use, or sooner if it starts to smell or looks visibly dirty.
